New RSC Wellness Program

Recently the Senior Advisory Committee added a new sub-committee - the Health & Wellness committee. The purpose of this committee is to help the RSC develop and provide a greater variety of health and wellness opportunities. The committee and the RSC are happy to announce their first program - Pathways to Wellness.

The Pathways to Wellness program is designed to help participants set and achieve wellness goals. The program helps each person select goals that fit their personal wellness needs and then provides a system for tracking their achievements. Each person will follow their own “pathway” to health and wellness. The RSC is seeking sponsors to provide incentive prizes to reward participants as they reach their goals.

The wellness activities available to help participants achieve their goals include, but are not limited to:

  • Exercise, Dance, Yoga and Tai Chi classes
  • Drop-in activities such as table tennis and tennis at Reservoir Park
  • Newly improved Walking Program
  • Health Workshops every Wednesday
  • Health Services such as weekly blood pressure and
weight checks and yearly flu and pneumonia vaccinations

One of the major new components of the program is an improved walking program. The committee worked with the Parks and Trails Commission to update the City’s walking maps. In addition, the local Volkssport walking club will establish a walk that begins and ends at the RSC. The RSC is currently seeking volunteers to lead walks each day of the week.

It is anticipated the program will grow over time with many new components added as they become available. The committee is currently reviewing outdoor exercise equipment and working with Parks Planners in the hope of adding this equipment to the RSC Garden Plaza.
