Expansion of SR-520

Project Description:The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is widening State Route 520 (SR520) in Redmond from two to four lanes in each direction by adding a merge lane and carpool lanes.  When complete, this project will reduce travel times, especially during peak commute hours; improve access and enhance safety for vehicles traveling on SR520 between the West Lake Sammamish Parkway interchange and SR202.

Widening SR 520 will reduce peak morning commute times by 60 percent and reduce peak evening commute times by 75 percent. It will also eliminate the existing single lane bottleneck between SR202 and Avondale Road. Extended carpool lanes will reduce travel times for transit, carpools and vanpools by providing seamless access to the east end of the SR520 floating bridge.

The project began in April 2009 and is scheduled for completion in early 2011
